THE LEEWARD STORY

Leeward REI actively engages in the acquisition, development, and management of residential and commercial properties.

We identify and invest in value-added opportunities whether the value-add is through strategic capital improvements, disciplined management or asset repositioning or expansion. We look for properties that are underperforming, due to misuse or mismanagement. Targeting certain under-radar market is also one of our strategies. We maximize returns with aggressive cost management and proactive tenant service. When appropriate to do so, we also develop or reposition based on thorough research and with strategic alliances with local teams.

Our story began when Sonia Sohn Lee, an attorney-turned-developer started her real estate investing career in 2002. Sonia developed and built luxury custom homes for over 13 years. Then when the financial atmosphere changed in 2008, she saw opportunities in multifamily and other commercial properties. Since that time she has been building and managing an investment portfolio consisting of a diverse array of residential and commercial properties.
Understanding the value in economies of scale and leveraging, Sonia invited others to invest with her. Her team now focuses on acquiring large commercial investments with above-market cash-flow or value-add opportunities that are not available to individual investors. These institutional opportunities provide Leeward investors’ with greater returns and far less risk. The team’s ever-growing portfolio now includes properties located throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Sonoma County, and Arizona. Sonia is directly invested and also asset manages all the properties. As a result, the investors receive clear, consistent communications about property updates and strategic decisions.
